Compensation and Benefits

$62,100 – $78,000 | Salary is negotiable dependent upon experience.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Programs and Audit while having independent access to the CFO and Board of Directors, the Internal Auditor is responsible for ensuring APH's compliance with the OMB (Office of Management and Budget Circular No. A-133 Audits of States, Local Governments, and Non-Profits Organizations). Additionally, this position will evaluate internal controls, risk management, and financial reporting processes throughout the organization.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate financial documents for accuracy and compliance with federal regulations by performing the full audit cycle including risk management and control management over operations' effectiveness, financial reliability, and compliance with all applicate regulations and directives.
  • Maintain and review policies and procedures, including ensuring they remain current with best practices.
  • Identify the financial risk of the organization and offer recommendations to reduce risk.
  • Prepare and maintain completed audit work papers, documenting the basis for the recommendations relative to the audit assignments.
  • Present findings to upper management in the form of reports and presentations.
  • Develop an OMB Circular A-133 compliant audit program to provide expense documentation, accounting, and procurement policies and procedures consistent with A-133 requirements.
  • Identify loopholes and recommend risk aversion measures and cost savings.
  • Access the efficiency and productivity of internal staff and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement risk management strategies.
  • Administer internal audit program, specifically payroll and other departmental expenses in accordance with A-133 requirements.
  • Review procurement contracts and practices to ensure compliance with A-133 requirements.
  • Coordinate A-133 audit with external auditors.
  • Perform follow-up on the status of outstanding internal audit issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Education, Training, and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in accounting.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience – preferably in Manufacturing – in auditing the accounting policies, practices, and procedures of a company. CIA designation or familiarity with cost accounting in manufacturing or industry a plus.
  • Substantive and verifiable knowledge of technical aspects of accounting, financial reporting, and internal control policies and procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of current tax laws, rules, and regulations. Comprehensive understanding of tax return processes and regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective training of employees, presentations to APH Board and management staff, and federal regulatory officials.
  • Experience in performing audit functions for multiple projects and working with team members of varying disciplines.
  • Must be motivated, a problem-solver, and can use independent judgment in decision-making.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships across departments and seniority levels while also being able to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with a dedication to accuracy.
  • Strong work ethic, maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
